The leading poet of French symbolism, Mallarme has exercised an enormous influence on both French and on English avant-garde writers. In this volume C.F. MacIntrye has translated forty-three of his poems, including the Ouverture and Scene from Horidiade which was to have been a drama in verso, and the well known Apres idi d'un Faune, for which Debussy composed his orchestral Prelude.
